How can I clean the oil rancid a plastic bottle?

I keep a small amount of cooking oil in a plastic bottle camping has a soft screw cap. the top is white and the bottle is a soft, almost transparent plastic. I've tried hot water and soap to wash dishes in inside and put it in the microwave, which works very well for glass bottles and fresh oil. but this is ugly and has too much oil on the outside. Ideas?
